EXILE #7
Judge Sam: “Welcome to Exile #7.
It’s taken us 27 days, but we are back down to 11 players. 27 days ago a second group of evacuees returned to the Burg and assimilated into our group, changing the game forever. Since then we have Exiled 4 original Citizens and attempted to vote a fifth out. Who will be the fifth original voted out tonight and will we ever seriously suspect new players?
We are in a Exile or End situation so we must catch a Spy tonight or the game is over. Unfortunately we haven’t quite had the success we were hoping for in the previous Eight Exiles. You can relive each shoulder-sag one by one by clicking that link. Despite all the disappointments, when looking back through the game while writing the recap I remembered tons of the enjoyable moments. If the game does end tonight, hopefully the frustration and failures will fade into memory and the good memories can rise to the surface.
Technically we have a little less than a 50/50 shot of catching a Spy tonight, but with so many Spies comes so much influence in their favor. If we haven’t identified them by now, how can we be confident that we are correctly ignoring the ones trying to muck everything up?
Recently the Citizens received a succinct Last Message of Hope from the Imprisoned and Exiled, guiding us in no uncertain terms to support Bruce and vote out Jessica. Let’s see if their advice rings true tonight.
Sam stands up resolutely, picks up the voting shoebox, and begins walking amongst the townspeople. One by one, they drop their vote into the shoebox. Some are satisfied with their choice, others are nervous and unsure. Everyone - Citizens and Spies alike - are praying that their name does not come up.
Judge Sam: "All of the votes have been received and verified, and a result has been decided. Let the Exiling begin."

Arthur - You have been Exiled from the Burg under suspicion of being a Spy. It is now your time to leave. Goodbye.
Judge Sam: "Thank you for your dedication to the game. You played the game as yourself and brought a different way of playing to the game. You are a unique personality and I enjoyed having you play. Your confessionals were insightful and I appreciated the time you took to post conversations, as well as post in the Burg some controversial thoughts. Good luck in future games.”
Arthur: Please post Final Words in your confessional immediately.
Arthur takes one last look at their former friends. Saddened by being suspected of a Spy by the people they trusted, they take their supplies and compass and head out into the wilderness, disappearing into the sunset. You will never see them again.
It is now time to find out if this person was truly a Spy. If they were, we will rejoice in becoming one step closer to safety and security. If they were not, we lose the game.
Period.
Arthur was a....
CITIZEN!!!
Judge Sam: “SPIES WIN SPIES 3: THE COLLECTIVE!!!”
The 10 remaining villagers look at each other warily as Arthur, the Citizen, leaves the Burg for good. All of them know what is now about to happen.
“You can smile now, you know.” Matthew says. “There’s no reason to hide it anymore. Game over. It’s done. You’ve won.”
No response from anyone. The Spies still maintain their innocence. Enveloped in despair, all the villagers return to their home, waiting for the inevitable final strike to come. One Citizen bars the doors and windows shut and moves all their heavy furniture to block them. Another packs her bags and begins walking towards the underground prison, ready to turn herself in. A third tries fleeing the Burg for another city.
It’s all pointless. Hopeless. The Spies will get you wherever you are.
The sun sets in a free and democratic Burg for the final time.
And the five remaining Citizens Imprisoned for good. They and the other resistance live the remainder of their lives in a dirty jail cell. Tens of thousands rise out of their hiding place and take over the Burg for the Enemy. Communism spreads throughout the city and into the surrounding area. The Burg is an Enemy stronghold. The Citizens have failed.
It is now time to find out the Identities of the remaining 10 players and discover the 5 masterful Spies who have deceived us through 36 days and 9 Exiles. The 5 Spies are:
Jess..Raphael.Claire.Bebe..Tenchi
Congratulations Spies, you have won Spies 3: The Collective in a clean sweep! A shutout!
You have brought the gameplay of Spies to a level it may never again reach. You managed to survive 9 Exiles, powerful gifts, spy lists, a nearly-built Bunker, an Inheritor, costume parties, a one-vote kill, investigations, messages from the dead, and 21 pairs of scrutinizing eyes pointed straight in your direction. You have truly earned the title of Winners in a way no others have before you. Congratulations.
Citizens – you played hard, you never gave up, and you almost pulled off a massive comeback in the ninth-inning. Unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be. Thank you for giving it your all and contributing to such an active and interesting game.
Thus ends the story of Spies 3. Stick with the board as the episodes are released one by one every four days. Additional bonus material and game discussion will also take place. I guarantee that there will be some eye-opening material as you read the thoughts and conversations of your fellow players. Seeing the game from their perspective may provide insights for you in the next game you play. Each of the 25 players had their own secrets which are waiting for you to discover.
Before I leave you for the Burg of Spies 4, let me give you one little hint towards the future, as a reward for reading this long post which contains information you already know. Or rather, I should say, a hint towards the past. All previous Spies games have taken place in a fictional near-future or present time. In Spies 4, we travel to a time of the past. A time of great conflict and paranoia. And of course a time where undercover Spies with ulterior motives and secret agendas could flourish…
In the films the good guy always wins, but this is one bad guy who ain't gonna lose.
