IMPRISONMENT #3 Judge Sam: “Welcome to the new members of the Burg! We have located another group of survivors from the terrible VX nerve gas attack. We have finally reunited as one group. All of us had evacuated the city in the wake of the terror strike but it looks like we have finally made it back together as one civilization. The Burg’s ranks have doubled from 11 to 22 in just one day. It’s going to be different accommodating to the population swell. However, over the next few weeks everyone will get to know each other better and become familiar with one another. You may even forget a time where it was only your group that you were talking to.
However, with the ranks of the Burg increasing so could the ranks of the Spies. There are now 5 Spies hidden in our midst, masquerading as normal Citizens. It’s 5 versus 17 at the moment, but after tonight another Citizen will be taken from us and we will be down to 16. We haven’t caught a Spy yet but now is not the time to lose hope.
I can now reveal tonight that there is at least one Citizen role amongst us – possibly more – that will be of great use to the Citizens if they use it to our advantage. This role could be the crucial tool in finding and Exiling a Spy. However, if this role falls into the wrong hands or is manipulated by the cunning of the Spies, it could prove disastrous. Knowing who you can trust is 90% of the game of Spies, and unfortunately at the moment that list might be very short. Getting to know everyone better is the only way to know who you can trust and who you cannot.
Additionally, I encourage everyone to post their theories and suspicions publicly in the Burg forum. We won’t get anywhere without any ideas on the table, and posting is an easy to way to talk to everyone at once and get everyone’s input. Nothing can be done without the support of a large number of people, so coordinating everybody’s thoughts and actions is of the utmost importance.
With more people now in the game than ever before and more Spies than ever before, it truly must be a collective effort to accomplish any goal – whether it be a Spy or a Citizen one. Now that the Collective has manifested itself with the doubling of the Burg, what other new twists and turns will we encounter in the future, and in what other ways will the will of the Collective show itself?

Life had certainly changed in the small settlement on the outskirts of the Burg with the arrival of 11 new residents. Houses became full with new occupants, dinner time was a bigger, more rambunctious event, and chatter was at an all time high as all the new people got to know each other. Everyone was eager to share their life stories and old friends. With the arrival of all this new energy, spirits were up and more people were optimistic about the future. With so many people on the look out for Spy activity, how could they possibly miss the activities of 5 separate Spies? It would be very hard to hide anything from 17 pairs of inquisitive eyes.
After the initial euphoria wore off and things began to settle, a little bit of growing pains began to manifest itself in the town. New roommates had some small scuffles and disagreements over cleanliness. More people meant more questions about how things were run. It was such a quick adjustment that many things changed overnight, to the silent disgust of many old villagers. With old suspicions still lying dormant between old residents, how were they to judge all of the new people so quickly? The new people would have to go through the suspicions and the fear just like the older ones had, but at least they had people to ask questions to.
Normal routines that had developed in the first 9 days were disregarded and ignored as the new people had their own ideas about how to live their new lives in the Burg. But there was one thing everyone was in agreement about: their fear of the Putrid Precinct. SAFE: VULNERABLE:

The Putrid Precinct was a square area, ten miles in diameter, centered around the first exposure of the VX gas. Going anywhere near that zone was forbidden by the strictest standards – anyone who stepped foot there would instantly be reviled by the community under fear of the spreading the deadly toxin.
The memories of the terrible terror strike were still fresh in all the villagers’ minds. They wanted nothing more but to block out the heinous images of the past and start their life anew. Even mentioning the past brought slight reactions of disgust and disapproval. Talking about old restaurants, favorite movie theaters, and long-gone parks almost became taboo. Mentioning the luxuries of the past or popular locations brought back nostalgia and memories of the past which were still too fresh to bring back.
Bruce was thinking these thoughts as he skipped along the rubble just a few blocks south of the border of the Putrid Precinct. Pausing as he realized where he was, Bruce looked out into the distance and towards the abandoned city beyond, trying to distinguish if any living things remained inside.
He carefully crept forward until he was just half a block away from the street that marked the boundary. It was clear that this was the point beyond which no one was permitted. Couches, cars, and other furniture were strewn about the roads. Just yards on the other side of the street lay a supermarket with open doors. Inside there were cans of corn, meat, and rice. Bruce looked around and saw many other salvageable goods just lying there waiting to be snatched up. SAFE: VULNERABLE:

It was all so tempting, so many useful things just lying there on the other side of the street. No one was around, so it’s not like they would even know if he skipped across the street to get a snack, right? He stopped to take a closer look of everything around him. He couldn’t see anybody behind him, and it didn’t look like there was any poison gas floating around in front of him. Besides, even if there was vestiges of nerve gas this far away from the center of the attack, there’s no way in hell it’d still be lingering around after a whole month, right?
Gathering his courage, Bruce made a split-second decision and made a break for the supermarket. Sprinting as fast as he legs could carry him, he dashed into the store and picked up everything he could see. He stuffed cans and boxes down his shirt. He even knocked over an entire shelf in his haste. Heart beating as if it was a near-death experience, he ran out of the store and all whole way back to the Burg.
Bruce couldn’t sleep that night, but it wasn’t in fear of the Spies. He was constantly checking his pulse and his body for signs of a deadly disease. His heart was still beating fast yet he had been lying in bed for hours. He was so paranoid he thought the fact that his heart was racing was a sign of illness, but it was just his own nervousness. A sharp hiccup nearly sent him into convulsions as he believed it to be the onset of the nerve gas. It was nothing but a harmless hiccup. Finally after hours, exhausted, Bruce fell asleep, safe and healthy. He slept through the night like a baby. SAFE: VULNERABLE:

The next day Bruce found himself back at the border of the Putrid Precinct, looking past the supermarket and into the blocks beyond. If there was so much tasty food just within eyesight of the border, there could be even more useful tools as well. It was just the normal tools of daily life that before Bruce had taken for granted that he yearned for now. He was tired of using his finger as a Q-tip. He would have killed for some simple tweezers. If these things were just a hand’s reach away, why was he denying himself all these luxuries?
Cautiously Bruce took one step forward over the boundary of the Putrid Precinct. The wind blew by his face as he stood over the boundary. Nothing happened.
Bruce took another step forward. Then another. A tumbleweed blew by. He stood still for another minute before he relaxed and began to explore the nearby block. He was still scared of the nerve gas, but was feeling invincible at the moment. He picked up some food and tools and, smiling, headed slowly walked back home. SAFE: VULNERABLE:

The next day Bruce was delighted to discover that he was still alive. Not only was he healthy, but he was eating better and looked better too. His stomach was full and he felt relaxed and comfortable with all the new luxuries he had found. He even had found the comfiest new pillow that he now slept on every night. Bruce couldn’t be happier with his bravery and his discoveries so he kept returning to the Putrid Precinct on a daily basis. Each time he visited he went a little further in – after he had exhausted the area around the first block, he visited the second, then the third. Soon he was as far as an entire mile inside the forbidden zone, leisurely strolling around the area like a tourist.
All of Bruce’s fear had disappeared as he casually visited the city had lived in for a long time. It felt like returning home after a long vacation. It felt good.
Bruce had stopped to rest and have his own little personal picnic with food he had found at a Wal-Mart. It’s too bad none of his friends in the Burg would have the guts to visit the area and eat with him, he thought. Oh well. Their loss.
Bruce was lying on his back on the grass, relaxing in the sun, when suddenly something struck him. Something struck him as odd.
In all of his exploring of the Putrid Precinct, the one that had been hit in a terrorist attack one month ago, killing thousands and creating chaos in the city, Bruce had never seen one thing. One detail you would have expected to see in a situation like this. Something that'd you'd never see in day-to-day life, but after what happened... in fact, you would have been surprised not to see it.
Bruce sat up quickly, tense, his eyes strained, and gasped.

Where had all the bodies gone?
Meanwhile, someone in the Burg was seconds away from being kidnapped by the Spies and Imprisoned for life.
That person is:
Audrey has been plucked from the Burg and captured by the Enemy.
You will never see her again. Audrey, please post Final Words in your confessional immediately. Judge Sam: “Thank you for coming back and playing this game, it was a pleasure to have you play. You were a great contestant and a good addition to the Secret Mission peeps. It’s been a long road since you applied last September, to completing your Secret Mission, and to finally getting into the game. It is incredibly unfortunate that all of that would come to an end so quickly. It would have been amazing to see what you could have pulled off in this game since I know you are a talented and resourceful player. Could that have been a reason you were selected tonight? I’d love to have you back to play any future Spies game.” Another loss for the Citizens. Unfortunately we didn’t get much chance at all to talk to Audrey and very little chance for her to talk to us. Maybe she had theories on who she thought was a Spy… have you heard them? If not, it’s not only a terrible loss, but also a terrible missed opportunity for us all. Live Exile #3 begins at 8:00 PM CST tomorrow, Friday May 18th. Votes are due before then. With 21 people, your vote may seem to appear useless, but it is your discussions with other people that may prove most valuable. What are you looking for when you look for a Spy? What kind of behaviors? What kind of actions? I’ll say this: right now there are 5 people, working as a team, sharing information, coordinating plans to fool and manipulate Citizens into voting for Citizens. Put yourself in their shoes: how would you act if you were a Spy? What can that tell you about how they may be acting? Who knows more than they should? Whose plans are just a little too perfectly executed? We’ll attempt to answer those questions and more at Exile #3 where we will hopefully get revenge for Imagine's, Leena's, and Audrey's kidnappings. I’ll see you there.
